Royal Heritage College of Education (A Degree College)

. Objective: The attendance policy at Royal Heritage College of Education (A Degree College) is designed to ensure that students are actively engaged in their academic programs and are committed to their studies. Regular attendance is essential for the successful completion of courses and overall academic success. The following guidelines outline the attendance requirements for students enrolled in the college’s undergraduate programs in Arts, Science, and Commerce.

1. General Attendance Requirements:
• Minimum Attendance:

• A student is required to maintain a minimum of 75% attendance in each subject for both Theory and Practical classes, including all internal assessments, seminars, and tutorials.

75% attendance is mandatory to be eligible for end-semester examinations.

• Shortfall in Attendance:

• If a student’s attendance falls below 75% due to genuine reasons (medical emergencies, personal issues), they must submit the appropriate supporting documents (e.g., medical certificate, leave request) to theCollege Administration and request special permission for examination eligibility.

• Leave Application:

• Students must submit a Leave Application to theCourse Instructor and Academic Coordinator for planned absences (e.g., family events, travel).

• Unplanned absences must be informed at the earliest by submitting an application explaining the reason for absence, supported by relevant documents.

2. Attendance Calculation: • Theory Classes:

Attendance for theory classes will be recorded at the beginning of each lecture. Any student who arrives after the class has begun will be marked as absent.

• Practical Classes:

Attendance for practical sessions, labs, or fieldwork will be monitored by the concerned faculty. Regular participation in these sessions is essential for mastering the subject matter.

• Internal Assessments:

Students must attend and participate ininternal assessments, projects, presentations, and classroom discussions . Absence from internal assessments without prior permission will be recorded as zero for that assessment.

3. Consequences of Low Attendance: • Warning Notification:

If a student’s attendance falls below75% but above 60%, they will receive a warning from the college. The student will be given the opportunity to improve their attendance, with a specified timeline for improvement.

• Ineligibility for Examinations:

• If a student’s attendance is below60% , they will be ineligible to sit for the end-semester examinations for the respective subject(s).

• Such students may be required to repeat the course or, in some cases, the entire semester, depending on the college’s academic regulations.

• Repeat Year or Program:

Students who consistently fail to meet the attendance requirements over multiple semesters may be asked to withdraw from the program or repeat the academic year, subject to the discretion of the academic council.

4. Special Considerations:
• Medical Leave:

In case of illness or hospitalization, students must provide a medical certificate from a registered medical practitioner. The leave will be granted for the days the student was unable to attend classes due to medical reasons, and the student may be allowed to compensate for missed work through special arrangements made with the concerned faculty.

• Leave for Extracurricular Activities:

Students representing the college in sports, cultural events, or any other official activity must obtain prior permission from the Principal and submit the necessary supporting documents. These days will not be counted as absence, provided the student makes up for missed coursework.

• Maternity Leave:

Female students requiring maternity leave will be allowed a period of absence as per the norms set by the college, with appropriate documentation. This leave will not count towards the attendance limit.

5. Attendance Monitoring and Reporting: • Attendance Reports:

Attendance is recorded regularly and will be shared with students periodically. Students are advised to monitor their attendance regularly by checking their attendance records with the Academic Coordinator or their course instructors.

• Action on Continuous Absence:

Students who remain absent for more than 10 consecutive days without informing the college or providing a valid reason will be notified by the college. If no response or valid justification is received, the student may face disciplinary action, including the cancellation of admission.

6. Attendance for Online Classes (if applicable):

• For students attending online or hybrid classes, attendance will be recorded based on the active participation and engagement in the virtual classroom. Logging into the class platform and attending the lecture via video or audio is necessary to be marked present.

• In case of technical issues or inability to attend an online class, students must inform the concerned faculty or course coordinator in advance and provide the necessary documentation.

7. Attendance Appeal Process:

• If a student feels that their absence was unjustly recorded or if there are exceptional circumstances regarding their attendance, they may appeal to theAttendance Committee within 7 days of receiving the attendance report.

• The Attendance Committee will review the appeal, and a decision will be made based on the provided evidence.

Note:

• The attendance policy is in line with the regulations of Bihar University, Muzaffarpur, and is subject to changes as per university guidelines.

• Regular attendance is crucial for academic success and for building a strong foundation in each subject. We encourage all students to attend classes consistently to make the most of their education at Royal Heritage College of Education (A Degree College).
